We've just sprouted!
SEEDBOX Wild Plant Studio is a small nursery that focuses on the careful propagation of uncommon native plants, ethically derived from local, wild populations. Our mission is to help you help restore Ontario's lost ecosystems, one rare plant at a time.
Seed Box (Ludwigia alternafolia) is an uncommon native plant found in southwestern Ontario. It has ephemeral flowers, and is polite in the garden while surprising you with fall foliage and wonky cubed fruit. It is our emblem because although it is small, it produces thousands of seeds, and is very easy to grow.
SEEDBOX works with conservation organizations to collect seed from ex situ populations (fancy way of saying captive, source-identified, wild-origin gardens). We do not encourage unsustainable and uncoordinated collection of wild seed, and urge you to consider seed origin when selecting your native plants. For more information on our background, and how you can get involved in wild seed conservation, check out our blog page.
